OPPORTUNITY AND FEASIBILITY STUDY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW MOBILITY SERVICES IN CASABLANCA

Casablanca is now one of Africa's most dynamic metropolises and undeniably Morocco's economic powerhouse.

In the race against demographic growth and urban sprawl, Casa Transports is developing numerous projects to adapt and extend the city's transport network. It is in this context TTK and its partners has been commissioned by Casa Transports to carry out an opportunity and feasibility study into the deployment of new mobility services.

Despite 4 tramway lines, 2 BRT lines and a restructured bus network since 2019, the use of public transport is still low and almost 60% of daily journeys are made on foot. Casa Transports therefore wants to seize the opportunity offered by the new mobility services to capture some of these walking journeys and help improve mobility for the population living in the urban area.

There are three main challenges facing Casablanca in terms of new forms of mobility:
1. Implementing a complementary offer to the current transport network (in particular right-of-way) to support the first and last kilometres of a journey;
2. Encourage travel within neighbourhoods;
3. Improve the legibility and practicality of public transport and alternative forms of mobility in Casablanca, particularly with a view to the 2030 World Cup (MaaS, etc.).

In line with these issues, the main objective of the study is to propose a roadmap to Casa Transports for the introduction of new mobility services (cycling, scootering, car-sharing, etc.) in Casablanca.  These solutions will not have to be ex nihilo and TTK will ensure, over the 7 months of the study, that each solution is applicable and specific to the place where it is to be implemented.
Lastly, it should be noted that TTK is working with and supported by the Institut Paris Region, Auditas Maroc, Phipro and Herrie Schalekamp EI on this study.
