As part of the development of the new Victor Hugo school complex on Ronsard street, TTK has been commissioned by the Eurométropole de Strasbourg and the towns of Schiltigheim and Bischheim to provide full project management for the development of the new forecourt, as well as the complete re-profiling of the street between the school and the social housing development opposite.
This project forms part of the ongoing NPNRU (National Programme for Urban Regeneration) in the Écrivains neighbourhood of Schiltigheim, and marks the first public space to be completed, setting the tone for the neighbourhood’s future public spaces. As part of the new transport plan, Rue Ronsard was converted to one-way traffic. This provided an opportunity to completely redesign the use of the two areas adjacent to the street. More space was created for cyclists and pedestrians, and the access points to the social housing blocks were redesigned.
The project’s key challenges were to propose an integrated stormwater management system, to address soil pollution issues arising from the demolition of the old buildings, and to adapt the green spaces to cope with the low permeability of the soil.
Close coordination between numerous stakeholders was required to ensure the project’s schedule was met: the overhaul of the majority of underground utility networks (district heating, drinking water, etc.), the redevelopment of the street and the handover of the school complex all took place simultaneously.
The landscape is designed to protect children and the school complex’s façade, reduce mineral content in the soil, slow down traffic and control unauthorised parking within the neighbourhood.
The roadworks were completed in May 2026 following two months of works carried out whilst the area remained in use; planting is expected in autumn 2026.
