Delegation from Aarhus visits Nantes and St-Nazaire

TTK, in collaboration with the independent consultant Axel Kühn, co-organised a study trip to Nantes and St-Nazaire on behalf of the regional organisation authority Midttrafik from Denmark on the subject of 'BRT and trams'.
Marc Perez and Axel Kühn accompanied 22 politicians and transport officials from Denmark, who exchanged views with the relevant players in the two French cities, among others.
For the representatives from Aarhus (290,000 inhabitants), the focus in Nantes was on comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the tramway system and the BHNS (French version of the BRT) in view of the ongoing debates on the continuation of the ‘Aarhus Letbane’ light rail project.
For other representatives of smaller cities such as Randers (64,000 inhabitants), the example of the BHNS-Hélyce project in St-Nazaire was particularly inspiring. The first phase of the project, which was decided following a feasibility study by TTK in 2008 and went into operation in 2012, led to a doubling of public transport demand.
Seeing such ‘best practices’ is naturally an important source of inspiration for those responsible and can provide valuable decision-making aids.
In addition, the personal, friendly exchange and, of course, the opportunity to explore of the culture were important elements of the trip, which the participants enjoyed.
